Reader
Frequently Asked Questions about the Reader.
Which reading modes are there?
Long strip, Long strip with gaps, Paged (left to right), Paged (right to left), Paged (vertical), and Continuous horizontal (legacy). The default is Paged (right to left) — use it for traditional manga; webtoon-style series open as a long strip automatically. You can set a mode globally or per-series. See Reader settings.
Why didn't a page load?
Aside from a network hiccup, the image may have failed to come through from the server. Exit and re-enter the reader, which usually resolves it. If pages consistently fail, check that your Suwayomi server is reachable.
Can I pinch to zoom in the webtoon reader?
Pinch-to-zoom works in the long-strip reader as well as the paged modes. Double tap to zoom is on by default too: double-tap to zoom in at the point you tapped, and double-tap again to zoom back out. The zoom settings are separate for the Paged and Long strip readers, so you can turn zoom off in one without touching the other.
Can I see two pages at once?
In the paged modes, set Page layout to Double pages, or to Automatic to use two pages whenever the screen has room. The settings next to it fine-tune the spread: Split wide pages cuts double-width scans into two pages, Rotate wide pages to fit turns them 90° instead, Invert double pages swaps the reading order, and Center margin type adds a gutter down the middle of a spread. Turn on Dual page spread in landscape to get a true spread when you rotate the device. See Reader settings.
Can the reader scroll or turn pages by itself?
Pull down the handle at the top of the reader to open the auto-scroll bar. In the long-strip modes it's Auto scroll, gliding the page down on its own; in the paged modes it's Auto advance, turning one page at a time. The − and + buttons set the pace in seconds. On a keyboard, Space starts and stops auto-scroll in the long-strip modes. See Reader settings.
How do I save or share a page?
Long-press the page while reading. With Show actions on long tap enabled (it is by default), a sheet offers Copy, Open In Web, Share image, and Save to gallery.
Can I dim the page or read in grayscale?
Open the reader's settings sheet (the gear in the bottom bar) and switch to the Custom filter tab. Custom brightness dims the reader independently of the system, Custom color filter tints the page, and Grayscale and Inverted change how pages are rendered. The sheet's backdrop turns transparent on this tab, so you see every change on the actual page.
Can one series have its own reader settings?
The For this series block at the top of the in-reader settings sheet overrides the reading mode, rotation, tap zones, reader padding, and magnifier size for just that series. The overrides are stored on the server, so they follow the series to your other devices.
What do all the settings do?
See the guide here on reader settings.
